I like to keep an open state of mind and write about the world around me. These are my thoughts.

Schizophrenia

Jun 1, 2021

Ancient wisdom says that all humans are connected by an invisible web. When a certain person has an idea or invents something new, so do others somewhere around the globe at the exact same time. This energetic system connects us, yet at the same time, many of us feel as if we are all alone in the world. It’s a fine balance of connectivity and individuality.

I experience both these energies. As I walk amongst a crowd of people I feel that I am part of this group of strangers. I feel at home. This also happens in a club, when all of the sweaty bodies move in sync as the DJ orchestrates our every move. Soon after I find myself laying on my sofa all alone wondering, “why do I feel as if I’m the only person in this big world?”.

This system balances itself out. We appreciate the crowd and our independence and loneliness.

In the past few years, our online connectivity has bypassed the checks and balances that nature so carefully created within us. When we feel alone we jump on the web and connect with others any time of day. It can be a group chat or just surfing random short videos on one of the apps. A new reality was created for us. We feel a sense of belonging as long as we are connected. This connectivity does not require creativity or communication skills, it makes us lazy.

By connecting to the collective we became a single neuron rather than independent critical thinkers. This information travels at light speed around the globe, connecting lonely souls. Within these groups, there are no checks and balances. The world has become one brain rather than millions of independent brains. This worldly brain has opposing schools of thought that are clashing one another. Is the world becoming schizophrenic?

“Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally. Schizophrenia may result in some combination of hallucinations, delusions, and extremely disordered thinking and behavior that impairs daily functioning, and can be disabling. People with schizophrenia require lifelong treatment.” Mayo Clinic

We need more independent thinkers that don’t just jump online for ready-to-use answers or entertainment that is catered to make us a nonparticipating neuron.

Let’s get back to independent and critical thinking before we require forced hospitalization.

Much Love
